On Saturday, September 13, White Mountain Voices hosted its first annual teacher education workshop. Attendees met for 3 sessions. First, the group explored tips, tactics, and challenges to increasing participation in school music activities. Despite some of the challenges, educators find that parents carry forward the cultural value in music and look forward to their child's participation.
In the second session attendees learned the basics of Alexander Technique from Artistic Director Victoria Cole. Alexander Technique is a method for improving body movement, posture, and awareness and can be very helpful to musicians in achieving the best sound and avoiding repetitive stress injuries. Lastly, James Rode, Assistant Artistic Director, reviewed some of the many jobs beyond performance and teaching in which a sound music education is helpful.
Attendees were very positive about this workshop and the opportunity to learn and to know more about their colleagues.
